Our Health, Wellness and Young Living Essential Oil Discovery!

Our journey began March 15 2013 when my wife Mary & I (Dave) decided with a little help from our daughters to think about our health and how to better take care of ourselves. Our oldest daughter Michelle and son in-law Josh asked us to look at everything we ate & drank for one week. This was a great place to start. It was a daunting task because I thought that if we were going to do this we might as well do it right. We wrote down everything and I have to tell you that I was horrified!  I remember thinking to myself, this won’t be hard because we eat pretty well. Oh boy was I ever wrong! We drank way more diet pop then I thought, ate fast food a lot more, consumed less water, ate lots of processed food and much more.  You get the idea.  It’s funny how we perceive things to be, and what they really are in reality can be dramatically different. You should try it and see how different it is, and be honest.  This will be a good test.

We all know the Food Pyramid Chart and what we are supposed to eat. Ours was upside down. What we should be eating we weren't and what we shouldn't be eating we were.  Sound familiar? We were eating almost no vegetables except corn, which I love corn but it has almost no nutritional value…go figure! Just when I thought I was doing something good, poof!

Needless to say we needed to change. Our daughters helped pave the way.  Michelle is vegan, Jennifer a vegetarian & Kayla bought our first juicer. Michelle and Josh introduced us to the benefits of juicing. I knew that I wasn’t going to be able to eat all the vegetables I should so this seemed like a good option. I didn't know anything about it so we started to do some research. One of the first videos we watched was “Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead”. This really opened my eyes to a lot of things!  Not just what I ate but everything that goes in and on my body.


After juicing for about 3 1/2 months my wife said “with all this healthy stuff we are doing I want to quit smoking.”  I never really push the issue with her because she has to want to quit, I can't want it for her. On July 5th she watched a “Quit Smoking in 2 Hours" app from Jason vale, a juice master.  Right after watching it for 2 hours she quit smoking…cold turkey!  She smoked for about 40 years. Three week later she had an anxiety and a panic attack. I have suffered from them most of my life and I was very familiar with what she was going through. I was able to talk her down so to speak. As time went on they got to the point that she said she needed to see a doctor. After her consultation the doctor said you’re having panic attacks and anxiety. She gave her anti-anxiety pills and that put her into depression and that led to more pills. Nothing helped and she had really bad side effects from the meds. We saw a psychiatrists and all they did was give her more meds. We quickly found that pushing meds was what they were doing and not really listening to us about what the drugs were doing to my wife. If one didn’t work then they would just give her another. This subject is for another time but we needed to find a way to help her anxiety & depression without the side effects.

That is when we found Young Living essential oils. Our friend Shannon Wagner heard about what was going on with Mary and asked her if she had ever thought about trying essential oils? I never really heard about them, well I did but didn’t give them much thought. We listened to what she had to say about how great they worked and that they were all natural with no side effects. It all sounded great but I was very skeptical. My thought was if they were so great we would have already heard about them.  We decided they we would become a wholesale member because you get a lot oils with the membership and that was a good way for us to really see if the oils would work and it was the best value.


I was just starting to learn how the oils work and I can tell you that they really worked great on me but Mary had real bad issues with her anxiety and I needed help from a professional. That was when we found Vimal Patel, a Board Certified Clinical Nutritionist and founder of Time 4 Heath.  After a 2 ½ hour consultation, the conclusion was that Mary’s adrenal glands shut down and were in shock from her quitting smoking cold turkey and that it wasn’t all in her head. Finally someone was really listening to what we were saying and trying to help instead of pushing pills. He also said that it was going to take quite a while to recover from the damage that was done from taking the meds the doctors prescribed as the side effect for the meds went tissue deep.


We started a detox program that continues today along with oils and supplements.  I told him that we were also trying essential oils and that I was new and not sure what I was doing.  But I could see mood changes depending on what oil I gave her, so I know they worked.  I just need a little guidance. Instead of rolling his eyes like the other doctors did because they just wanted to push pills so they could make money, he asked which essential oils we were using and I said Young Living. He was happy to hear that and suggested we use the adrenal support protocol of Rosemary, Clove and Nutmeg.  As soon as we got home I looked it up in the Essential Oil Pocket Guide and we started right away. Awesome book and I highly recommend it for using essential oils.


It has been a long process but she is doing much better and is well on her way to recovery and I am truly thankful. We now use Young Living essential oils and the whole product line every day. Here are the first couple of thing I used that made me a believer. The first one I used was peppermint to get rid of my headache. Remember, I was a skeptic.  I was so sure it wouldn’t work that after I put it on I got out 2 Tylenol (which I will never take again) and put them on the table. After about 20 minutes I said to my wife “hey, you’re not going to believe this but my headache is gone!”  I started researching more of the different oils and reading about what they do.  I found an oil called Valor and it said it could help with snoring and sleep apnea.  That’s me! Mary would push me to stop my snoring and would really push me to get me to start breathing.  Scary, I know. So I applied Valor to my big toes, yes my big toes.  That’s what the book said to do so I did it. The next morning when I woke up I ask Mary if I was snoring and she said she didn’t hear anything until about 5 a.m. and it was very light. Now if I forget to put Valor on, she will say something like “you didn’t put on Valor last night, did you?”


Alternative Medicine

I have been able to clear up a sinus infection using RC, Balsam Fir & Thieves instead of getting that dreaded “Z-Pac”.  I do not like the side effect of that. With the oils I have no side effects.
